Insurance Plans and Payment Methods

We are very aware of today’s health care costs and make every effort to keep our fees fair and reasonable. After all, we pay for health care and insurance, too!

If we participate with your insurance company, we will file a claim to them for the services that we provide to you. You are responsible for any co-payment and/or deductible at the time of your visit.

If we do not participate with your insurance company, we expect payment up front, or arrangements to be made, before our services are provided. Our experience is that this method works best for both parties. As a courtesy to you, we will file a claim with your insurance company so that they may reimburse you for our services.

Since every employer (and their insurance coverage) is unique, we cannot be knowledgeable on what services are covered (or not covered) and what referrals are required. It is YOUR responsibility to find out this information BEFORE your visit.
SC OBGYN participates with most insurance companies in this area. We will automatically bill them for any covered service and will accept their payments as payment in full. Since it is the patient’s insurance company it is the patient who is ultimately responsible for the payment of their bills. And...since it is the patient’s insurance company, patients MUST know what they are paying for (benefits). You will be responsible for any services not covered under your contract or for services rejected by your insurance carrier. Patients are also responsible for any co-pays, coinsurances or deductible amounts.

SC OBGYN participates with the following insurances (This list is always subject to change. Please call 803.799.8816 to confirm our participation with any health plan):

  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield
  • Blue Choice
  • Aetna
  • Cigna / Great-West
  • Coventry / WellPath
  • MedCost
  • SuperMed Network (Medical Mutual, CCP & PHS)
  • United Healthcare
  • State Employee Health
  • Original Medicare (but very few Medicare Advantage Plans)
  • We do not accept Medicaid (call 803.799.8816 for more info)

No-Insurance Patients
Regrettably, we have limited appointments for “No Insurance Patients.” However, if we make an appointment for a patient who does not have ANY insurance, then we will offer her a 20% discount when she pays at the time of service. If you have questions on this policy, please call one of our insurance/billing representatives at 803-799-8816.

Surgery Deposits
Prior to a surgery or a special procedure being done, some patients have not met their full deductible amount or their insurance company requires that they are responsible for part of a bill (co-insurance). If this is your situation and you are being scheduled for surgery or a special procedure, we will ask for a deposit prior to rendering the service. Someone from our billing department will explain the calculation of the deposit amount and will assist you in setting up a payment plan for the remaining balance due.

Obstetrical Services
If you have no insurance, you will be asked to pay a $700.00 deposit before your first visit with us. No insurance and insurance patients must pay the balance of the total OB fee estimate in full prior to the 7 month of pregnancy. ALL OB patients must contact our billing department to discuss their verifiable health insurance benefits and to arrange a payment plan prior to receiving any services if necessary.

Sterilization and Contraceptive Devices (IUDs)
Many insurance companies do not cover these procedures. If your policy does not cover it, you will be asked to pay the entire fee prior to the surgery being booked or the insertion of the IUD.

Co-Pays
Co-pays are to be paid at the time the service is rendered. It is required by your insurance carrier that we collect co-pays since it is calculated in the insurance carrier's total payment to us.
