For those who have spider veins, wearing a skirt or shorts can be a nightmare. There isn't a way to hide the unsightly veins besides wearing pants, which can make you uncomfortable in hot weather and greatly limit your style. ABOUT YOU wants to help you rebuild your confidence and relieve any stress associated with the appearance of spider veins. We offer two primary treatment types: laser vein treatment and sclerotherapy.

What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are small clusters of red, blue or purple veins that appear most often on the legs and face. It is estimated that one half of the female population is bothered by spider veins. There are many factors that can contribute to the appearance of spider veins, including:

  • heredity
  • pregnancy
  • hormonal shifts
  • weight gain
  • certain occupations or activities
  • prolonged standing or sitting

Laser Vein Treatment

Laser vein treatment works through a beam of light focused on the affected vein. Heat applied from the laser to the vein forms scar tissue. In return, the vein closes. Once the vein closes, blood doesn't travel through it anymore, resulting in the vein eventually fading away. Laser vein treatment is especially suitable for:

  • veins that have a weblike or branching pattern on your legs or thighs
  • facial veins that have a branching pattern
  • veins that have appeared due to aging or other skin damage

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is another effective treatment used to treat spider veins. During this procedure, a sclerosing agent is injected into your vein, causing them to collapse and fade from view. Most treatments can be completed in one session but additional treatments may be required to achieve optimal results.

After sclerotherapy treatments, you'll be able to wear shorts proudly once again. The procedure only takes about an hour before you are back on your feet. Sclerotherapy is suitable for both large and small veins. You will once again have smooth looking legs after eliminating spider veins through sclerotherapy.

What to Expect During Vein Treatments

Neither laser treatment nor sclerotherapy are invasive. You'll be able to return to your daily activities right after treatment. You'll even be able to drive yourself home because neither type requires general anesthesia, nor will they cause an intolerable amount of pain.

ABOUT YOU will discuss your options with you and decide which procedures works best for your particular needs and health. Not everyone is an ideal candidate for either treatment, so personal preference is not always an option. For example, those pregnant and nursing may not undergo sclerotherapy. Patients should expect to wear compression hose for a week following their sclerotherapy treatment and should plan this to be done about 6 weeks prior to a big event to allow adequate time for healing and vessel resolution.

We take our time with each patient to ensure she feels comfortable and confident in our practice. We want our patients to begin the procedure with no doubts or unanswered questions. Your body is your temple, and we believe it should be treated as such.

Our Nurse Practitioner has performed numerous procedures and is knowledgeable and friendly in your care. We want to supply an all-around pleasant experience and one with optimal results.

If you want to eliminate the appearance of unwanted spider and facial veins, please schedule a consultation with our Nurse Practitioner to discuss how our vein treatments may help you.
